Two. Cool.
My son Owen just turned two! Time has flown by but at the same time when I look at his baby pics, it seems like ages ago. We recently celebrated his 2nd birthday party. For his first birthday, I put a lot of thought into it. I planned it out for months, I ordered custom pieces from Etsy, and spent loads of time making decorations. Man, that Pinterest pressure is real. Don't get me wrong, I love Pinterest, but it's easy to get sucked into idea overload. This year was different. I don't have the same time and energy but I did want Owen to feel special. So, simply I took his two fave colours at the time, blue and yellow, and his favourite accessory, his sunglasses, and created a theme - Two. Cool. He also loves balloons. Perfect. Easy and super cheap!

So cool. These sure aren't the cheesy balloon decor from my childhood. I checked out some tutorials and it didn't look too difficult to make a basic cluster. (Nothing like above but still cute). I found out that you just need to string the balloons together through the part that you tie off (the nipple, if you will). I used fishing wire. Then I glued some of the balloons together randomly so it didn't look like a plain ol' string of balloons and voilà! The trick is to use a "low temp" glue gun. I didn't know that existed but you can find them at Michael's, Walmart or your local craft store, right next to the high temp ones. Here are a couple of tutorials if you're interested.
I planned on doing a bunch more but this workin' mom was short on time.
I bought some pennants from Michael's with a plan to make a Happy Birthday sign then realized when I got home there weren't enough. Haha! Classic "mom in a rush". So it then became an OWEN banner for the cake backdrop. Without a birthday banner, I decided to make my own posters with internet clipart, bristol board and sharpies. Quick, easy and budget friendly.
Owen loves Paw Patrol. I already bought his two fave characters as part of his gift and decided to make them double as cake toppers. I put Barbie sunglasses on them and it was complete. He loved it!
I bought some dollar store party favor sunglasses and put them on Owen's stuffed animals. I also had some smaller animals from last year's birthday party and used them again as decor. I cut some construction paper into sunglasses and glued them on. The party animals were ready!
The party was a success. We ate, we laughed and Owen danced, a lot.
