Indecisive decorating for the kids rooms
Moving from Toronto to Calgary while 8 months pregnant meant my nesting instinct kicked in the second we got our home. My first priority was getting the nursery and Ryan’s room set up. I had a very limited budget and time as the baby would be arriving within weeks. I’m less than 2 weeks away now. The time crunch meant I wouldn’t have a lot of time to contemplate what I wanted, I just had to make the decisions. So, I decided to decorate with shelves from Ikea and a local Calgary company that way I could change out the decor if later I wasn’t feeling it.
I decided to keep Ryan in his crib since he has enough changes leaving his family, friends and familiarity back in Toronto plus a new sibling anyday now. However, I kept in mind that soon he will have a “big” kid bed so I left the main wall in room pretty bare. I do have some big plans for that wall that are perfect for the indecisive decorator. As someone who loves decor I still want to add some final touches to Ryan’s room but overall his room is “done” for now…
I struggled with the nursery since it is tiny. Moving from a Toronto home I'm used to tiny spaces with no closets. I was lucky enough to inherit the armoire I had in my room as a child but what do you do with an armoire in a room that already has a closet? I'll tell you, the armoire dictated where everything else would go. I measured out the rest of the space and off I went to Ikea.
Just because the room is small doesn’t mean that you can’t have everything you need for baby in the room. You will notice that I don’t have nursing chair. This was a lesson I learned when Ryan was a baby, I never used the chair. For night feedings I would bring Ryan back to my bed as I really wanted to feel like I was sleeping. During the day we were on the main floor, Ryan would sleep in the bassinet so it was easiest to feed him on the couch. It is personal preference but not getting a glider will save you hundreds.
